Men's Soccer tops Pikeville 15-0 in MSC Quarterfinal matchup

Box Score

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team scored 11-second half goals to sprint past Pikeville (Ky.) 15-0 in the Mid-South Conference Quarterfinals on Friday afternoon at Warren East High School.

The victory moves the Blue Raiders (12-4-1) into the semifinal round next Thursday against the winner of Cumberlands (Ky.) and Shawnee State (Ohio). Pikeville's (4-13-0) season comes to an end with the loss.

Six different Blue Raiders accounted for the scoring, each collecting at least two goals. Mid-South Conference Player of the Year Aleksi Pahkasalo led all scorers with four, while Mutaya Mwape collected a hat trick. Andrew Revanales, Andres Riquelme, Storm Lilly and Lawson Crider each recorded a pair of goals.

Lindsey Wilson opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Mwape's shot took a deflection and found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. Pahkasalo doubled the lead when he hit a ball from 35-yards out that swerved into the goal just under the crossbar for the score. Revanales made it 3-0 when Franck Bikoya dumped a ball to him to avoid the onrushing keeper and Revanales finished into the open net. Mwape extended the lead to 4-0 in the 36th minute when, after a scramble in the box that saw the keeper vacate his line, Mwape scooped the ball up and over the Pikeville defense into the back of the net.

Lindsey Wilson continued the intensity in the second half, doubling the lead just three and a half minutes in. Pahkasalo scored on a penalty kick, followed by goals from Revanales, Mwape and another from Pahkasalo to complete his hat trick.

Pahkasalo netted one more and a few minutes later the Blue Raiders substituted nine field players in the 58th minute. Lindsey Wilson continued to dominate possession for the remainder of the game, pouring in five more goals.

By the end of the 90 minutes the Blue Raiders had racked up 34 shots with 22 on target. Pikeville was held to just two shots during the game.

Lindsey Wilson awaits the winner of Cumberlands and Shawnee State in the MSC Semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. CT.
