No. 11 Campbellsville outlasts No. 20 Men's Basketball, 64-58, on Saturday afternoon

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 20th-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team dropped its fifth-straight game on Saturday afternoon after falling to No. 11 Campbellsville (Ky.) on the road, 64-58.

Charles Sutton led the Blue Raiders (7-5, 0-2 Mid-South Conference) with 17 points, while Nic Brown chipped in with 13 points and finished one rebound shy a of double-double with nine. Hagen Tyler scored a game-high 26 points for the Tigers (7-4, 1-1 MSC).

The first half was tightly contested throughout with the game staying within an eight-point window. The scored was tied on seven different occasions and the lead changed hands six times.

Both teams struggled on offense to start the game as Lindsey Wilson made just two of its first eight shots, while Campbellsville was 2-of-7 to start the game. After the game was tied at 13, the Tigers went on a 5-0 run to take their largest lead of the first half at 18-13 with 7:50 to play in the half.

The Blue Raiders countered with the next seven points to take a 20-18 lead with 6:20 left in the first half. Campbellsville battled back to regain a 27-25 lead, but Lindsey Wilson scored the final five points of the half to grab a 30-27 lead going into the half.

At halftime, the Blue Raiders shot 39.3 percent from the floor and held Campbellsville to just 25.8 percent shooting.

To start the second half, Lindsey Wilson scored the first four points to take its largest lead of the game at 34-27. After the Blue Raiders took a 37-30 lead, Campbellsville went on 12-2 run to take a 42-39 lead with 10:10 remaining in regulation.

Lindsey Wilson worked its way back into the game to tie the score at 44-44 and later took a 47-44 lead following a three-point play from Sutton at the 7:23 mark. Before Campbellsville took a 54-53 lead, the game was tied three more times.

Sutton hit a basket to regain the lead for the Blue Raiders, 55-54, with 4:17 to play, but Lindsey Wilson went scoreless for the next 3:42 and the Tigers went on 7-0 over run over that span. With 35 seconds left in regulation, Marshall Griffith hit a three-pointer in the left corner to make to Campbellsville's lead to 61-58.

Despite not hitting field goal over the final 3:52 of the game, the Tigers made three free throws down the stretch to beat the Blue Raiders, 64-58.

Lindsey Wilson finished the game shooting 32.3 percent from the floor, while Campbellsville shot 32.7 percent. The Blue Raiders held a slight advantage on the glass grabbing 42 rebounds compared to the Tigers 38.

Lindsey Wilson travels to NCAA Division II, Kentucky State next Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT in Frankfort, Ky.
