Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. – The 18th-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team tried to make a late comeback against No. 6 Campbellsville (Ky.), but the Blue Raiders fell to the Tigers, 60-56, in the semifinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Kayla Styles led the Blue Raiders (25-6) with 17 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. Styles recorded her fourth double-double of the season. Chanel Roberts chipped in with 16 points and seven rebounds against the Tigers (25-6).
Campbellsville took an early 7-3 lead over Lindsey Wilson, but the Blue Raiders battled back to make it a 9-9 game with 55 seconds left in the first quarter. After a low scoring first quarter, the Tigers took 12-9 lead over Lindsey Wilson. The only lead for the Blue Raiders in the first quarter came at the 7:32 mark after Teanna Curry hit a free throw to complete a three-point play and gave Lindsey Wilson a 3-2 lead.
Both teams continued to struggle on offense in the second quarter as the Blue Raiders scored 15 points and Campbellsville tallied 14 points in the quarter. Lindsey Wilson never led in the second quarter, but they tied the game four times in the quarter.
At the half, the Tigers held a slim two-point lead, 26-24.
Lindsey Wilson shot 30.3 percent from the floor in the half and they made just one of their six three-pointers. Campbellsville also struggled shooting the ball in the first half as they were 22.9 percent from the floor and 1-for-10 from beyond the arc.
The seesaw battled continued at the start of the third quarter as the Blue Raiders grabbed a 29-28 lead at the beginning of the quarter, but the Tigers went on 6-0 run to grab a 34-29 lead. Campbellsville started to take over the momentum in the game as they extended their lead to 41-33 with 3:51 left in the third quarter after a pair of free throws from LeeAnn Grider.
The Blue Raiders cut into their deficit at the end of the third quarter as they made in a four-point, but a basket from Grider just before the buzzer gave the Tigers a 45-39 advantage after the third quarter.
Lindsey Wilson fell behind by nine points with 6:06 left in regulation but the Blue Raiders battled back with a 7-0 run to make it a 54-52 game with 2:22 left to play. With less than a minute to play and Lindsey Wilson trailing, 57-54, the Tiger grabbed two offensive rebounds to force the Blue Raiders to foul and Lindsey Burd hit one free throw to make it a four-point game.
On the ensuing Lindsey Wilson possession, Styles was able to make it a 58-56 game, but Burd knocked down two more free throws as she secured a 60-56 win for the Tigers.
The Blue Raiders finished the game shooting 38.7 percent from the floor and they were just 2-of-14 from beyond the arc. Campbellsville capped off the game going 5-for-19 from three-point land and they shot 30.3 percent from the field.
Lindsey Wilson now waits to see if they will earn an at-large bid into the NAIA National Championships. The selection of the 32-team field is announced on March 9.
