Men's Swimming finishes eighth at the NAIA National Championships

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Lindsey Wilson men's swimming team posted an eighth-place finish at the 2016 NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships, as the event concluded on Saturday at the Columbus Aquatics Center.

The Blue Raiders set a new program best with their eighth-place finish as they compiled 195 points. Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) won the national championship with 714.5 points.

Clemens Patzold started the final day of competition for Lindsey Wilson in the 200-yard backstroke, where he finished prelims in 10th place with a time of 1:54.36, to qualify for the B finals.

After the B finals, Patzold remained in 10th place after he finished in a time of 1:53.21.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Iker Larzabal led a trio of Blue Raiders in the prelims with a time of 46.82, which slotted him in ninth to qualify for the B finals and he set a new program record. Zachary Patzer finished in 19th with a time of 47.29. Taylor Thompson was the final Lindsey Wilson swimmer in the event as he posted at time of 49.13, to finish in 38th.

Larzabal was the lone Blue Raider in the B finals of the 100-yard freestyle and he slipped to 16th place after qualifying in ninth. Larzabal finished with a time of 47.27.

Jonas Mueller was the lone competitor for the Blue Raiders in the 200-yard breaststroke and he qualified for the championship finals. Mueller's time of 2:06.04 placed in seventh after the prelims.

Mueller improved one-spot in the championship finals of the 200-yard breaststroke as he finished in fifth place overall with a time of 2:04.44 to earn CSCAA All-American accolades.

In the 200-yard butterfly, Gage Setzer qualified for the B finals with a 13th-place finish in the prelims, after posting a time of 1:57.59.

Setzer slipped one position in the B finals of the 200-yard butterfly after he finished in a time of 1:57.71.

The 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of Patzold, Jose Prado de Lima, Patzer and Larzabal posted a sixth-place finish in the prelims with a time of 3:08.25 to qualify for the championship finals.

Despite finishing the championships finals .17 seconds quicker, the Blue Raiders fell to eighth in the finals of the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:08.08. The time also set a new program record.

Prado de Lima and Leamy competed in the 1,650-yard freestyle for the Lindsey Wilson and they finished in fifth and ninth, respectively. Prado de Lima finished in 16:23.22, while Leamy posted a time of 16:48.01. Mueller earned CSCAA All-American honors and set a new school record.

The Blue Raiders concluded their season on Saturday at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships.
