Women Soccer's offensive burst leads to 7-0 win over Pikeville

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Seven different Blue Raiders scored a goal as No. 22 Lindsey Wilson women's soccer defeated visiting Pikeville (Ky.) 7-0 tonight at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

The seven goals are a season-high for the Blue Raiders (5-4-3, 3-1 in the Mid-South Conference).

Amara Safuan scored a goal and recorded a pair of assists to lead the Blue Raiders in scoring. Lindsey Wilson finished the match out-shooting the Bears (0-12-1, 0-4) 35-1, including 16-0 in shots on goal.

Lindsey Wilson seized an early lead with three goals in the first six minutes of the match.

Sanna Svensson put the Blue Raiders up 1-0 with a penalty kick in the third minute. Lindsey Wilson was awarded the spot kick after a Pikeville hand ball in the box. The goal is the second of the season for Svensson, both coming from the penalty spot.

Emelie Liljered and Hannah Schrage tallied goals 20 seconds apart in the sixth minute to push the lead to 3-0. Liljered picks up her fourth goal of the season off an Emma Gustafsson assist while Schrage notched her second of the season off an assist from Emma Lindell. Liljered headed in Gustafsson's corner kick at the far post while Lindell cut a ball back in the box from the end line where Schrage smashed it home.

Lindsey Wilson added two more goals late in the opening half.

Gustafsson found the back of the net in the 39th minute while Ida Onnervik scored in the 45th minute for the 5-0 lead at the half. Safuan started both goals with her first two assists of the season. She stole the ball from a Pikeville defender inside the box before feeding it to Gustafsson for the goal, then followed by heading a ball down to Onnervik for her second assist of the night.

Lindsey Wilson tacked on two more goals in the second half. Chiara Epifani scored an unassisted goal in the 53rd minute -- her second of the season. Safuan joined the scoring party in the 88th minute off Epifani's assist to give Lindsey Wilson the 7-0 lead and the eventual win.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 17, as the Blue Raiders travel to Life (Ga.) in Marietta, Georgia.
