Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No 11-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team scored six-unanswered goals to turn a two-goal deficit into a 6-2 victory on Friday night over No. 23-ranked Cumberland (Tenn.) at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (7-1-0, 3-0-0 Mid-South Conference) recorded 26 shots and notched a season-high 14 shots on goal. It marks the third-straight contest the Blue Raiders have recorded over 20 shots in a match.
Cumberland falls to 8-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in MSC play with the loss.
Lindsey Wilson found themselves down 2-0 just 16 minutes into the match. Brian McNamara headed a ball that deflected off the post and past LWC goalkeeper William Diaz into the back of the net off a cross by Markus Skraastad in the ninth minute. Just six minutes later, McNamara again found the back of the net, this time on a penalty kick that beat Diaz to the lower-right hand corner of the goal.
Yuta Yamamoto cut the Cumberland lead in half in the 34th minute on a free kick that a Cumberland defender tried to clear, but the ball fell to Yamamoto who was able to head in the score. Tyler Collishaw then recorded his first goal of the night one minute later on a penalty kick, leveling the score at two.
Lindsey Wilson outshot Cumberland 8-6 in the first half, but were outshot 5-4 in shots on goal.
The second half was all Lindsey Wilson as the Blue Raiders held the Phoenix to zero shots in the half as the Blue Raiders recorded 18 total shots, 10 on goal, and scored four goals.
Collishaw started the second-half barrage in the 53rd minute. After pressuring the Phoenix back line and forcing a turnover, Andres Riquelme crossed a ball from the left side of the 18-yard to a waiting Collishaw in the middle, who chested the ball down and then booted it past Cumberland goalkeeper Bennet Strutz for the 3-2 lead.
In the 66th minute, Mutaya Mwape dribbled a ball past a Cumberland defender and drove the ball to the end line before crossing it to Stephane Dasse twelve yards out, who was able to blast one past a diving Strutz.
Two minutes later, Nicholas Marcano brought the Lindsey Wilson lead to 5-2 after another set-piece goal. The Blue Raiders received a corner kick where Mwape crossed a ball into the 18-yard box where Marcano was able to knock it in for the score.
The final goal of the night came as Collishaw completed his hat trick in the 86th minute. Israel Reyna hit a pass through the Phoenix defenders to a sprinting Collishaw, who latched on to the end of the pass and smashed home the score to make it 6-2.
While the Phoenix were unable to get a shot off in the second half, Cumberland was also hindered by being reduced to 10 men in the 69th minute. A total of six cards were issued in the contest along with 32 fouls.
The Blue Raiders are back in action against No. 7 Georgia Gwinnett in Lawrenceville, Georgia at 6 p.m. CT.
