COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team held on a for a 72-70 overtime victory over visiting Midway (Ky.) on Tuesday night at Biggers Sports Center.

Midway (3-3) had chances to win the contest at the end of regulation and overtime with shots in the final seconds, but both opportunities missed the mark and the Blue Raiders (5-0) were able to come away with the two-point victory.

The Blue Raiders, who led for the majority of the contest, found themselves behind by three in the final minute of regulation before Heidi Huffman knocked down a corner three to even the game at 58-58 with 40 seconds to play. After a Blue Raider block on the defensive end, Huffman was unable to replicate her shot on the next possession. Midway had one final chance at a game winner, but the 12 footer missed the mark as the game went into overtime.

In the overtime period, the two teams traded punch after punch throughout the five minutes. Midway took a 63-60 lead after a three-point play, only for LWC to answer right back with a three-point play of their own courtesy of Turner. The Eagles came back with a three pointer, but Hannah DeBruin answered with a three of her own to tie the game at 66-66.

Midway went up 70-66 and Turner responded with another three-point play after being fouled. Following an Eagle miss, Turner again drove to the hoop and was fouled, sinking both ensuing free throws to put LWC back ahead 71-70. The Blue Raider defense then forced a turnover and after DeBruin hit 1-of-2 free throws, Midway attempted a shot from three at the buzzer but it sailed wide and LWC held on for the win.

Turner matched a season-high with 19 points while racking up five rebounds, five assists and five steals. Kayla Styles also posted 12 points while Huffman had 11. Gerda Paulauskaite grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, while setting a program record with seven blocks in the game. DeBruin collected nine points, Teanna Curry had eight and Molly Stone matched Turner with five steals.

It was a rough start from the floor for the Blue Raiders who shot just 1-for-13 in the opening 10 minutes of play. Despite the struggles, LWC was still with tied with Midway at the end of the quarter 9-9.

The Lindsey Wilson offense started clicking in the second quarter as the Blue Raiders opened the frame on an 11-0 run, including three pointers from Huffman, DeBruin and Turner.

Midway rallied with a run of its own and clawed it back to a four-point game at 22-18 with 5:29 to play before halftime. The two teams traded points from there as Lindsey Wilson took a 29-22 lead into the break.

Midway cut it down to a one possession game early in the second half at 29-27, but that prompted a 12-2 run by the Blue Raiders that made it a 41-29 contest with 4:10 to play in the third quarter. Styles scored eight points in a row for LWC, helping extend the lead back to double digits at 37-27 following a three-point play.

But once again the Eagles fought their way back into the game, trimming the Blue Raider lead down to 45-39 by the end of the quarter.

Lindsey Wilson quickly pushed the lead back to double digits to start the fourth after a basket by Styles and Huffman knocked down a corner three to make it 50-39. Midway again refused to go away and scored the next seven points to make it 50-46 with just over six minutes to play.

The Eagles eventually took the lead 56-55 with 2:13 to go, their first lead since late in the first quarter when it was 7-5. Another Eagle basket made it 58-55 before Huffman's three to tie it.

Kelsee Kinder posted 17 points in the loss for the Eagles.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Jackson, Tennessee to take on NCAA Division II member Lane (Tenn.).
