CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Lindsey Wilson men and women's swim teams wrapped up the third and final day of competition at the Bearcat Midseason Invitational hosted by the University of Cincinnati on Saturday at the Keating Aquatic Center.
The women's side, which competed against four NCAA Division I institutions, finished in fifth place with 193 total team points. The host Bearcats won the event with 1,079 points, followed by San Jose State (Calif.) with 724.5 points, Illinois State with 475.5 points and Indiana State with 346 points. Lindsey Wilson men's team finished second behind the host Bearcats 1,214 to 568.
For the third-consecutive day, multiple Blue Raiders recorded numerous national standards, and once again a program record fell.
Alexis Kessler was again responsible for setting a new program record. She did so in the 100-yard freestyle event. During the morning preliminary session, Kessler raced her way to a program-record time of 51.49 seconds, hitting a national A standard in the process. She would go on to finish in fifth place in the finals of the event on Saturday evening. Both Jessica Macdonald and Bailey Seitz also recorded A standard times in the 100 free, while Harlee Smock recorded her first collegiate national cut with a B standard during the preliminaries.
In the men's 100-yard freestyle event, Zachary Patzer collected a fourth-place finish in the finals. Both he and Jose Prado de Lima collected A standards in the race.
Sarah Hahn hit a national B cut in the 200-yard backstroke event for the women's team while Clemens Paetzold took fourth place in the finals on the men's side with Paul Pavala and Michael Peck finishing eighth and ninth, respectively. Paetzold and Pavala both hit A cuts while Peck collected a B cut.
In the men's 200-yard breaststroke, Jonas Mueller and Hayden Krause both bettered their national cuts from the preliminaries during the finals session. Mueller trimmed his A standard time down from 2:10.44 to 2:08.53, while Krause, recorded his first collegiate A cut in the finals after recording a time of 2:12.29, just .01 seconds below the standard time. Caitlin Freeny hit a B cut of her own in the event.
Prado de Lima, Manny Griego and Peck all recorded national A cuts in the 1,650-yard freestyle as they finished third, fourth, and fifth in the finals. Emma Phillips recorded a B cut on the women's side in the event.
Pavala added another national cut to his week with an A standard in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing in fifth in the finals.
In the final event of the invitational, all four relay teams that competed in the 400-yard freestyle relay recorded national standard times. On the women's side, Macdonald, Seitz, Laura Stephenson and Kessler completed the race in 3:36.22, while team quartet of Smock, Phillips, Hahn and Freeny recorded a 3:56.69. For the men, Mueller, Patzer, Paetzold and Prado de Lima finished at 3:11.47, while Pavala, Krause, Van Winkle and Peck touched the wall in 3:26.30.
The Blue Raiders return to action in 2018 as they host Transylvania (Ky.) in a dual on Jan. 12.
