Men's Soccer defeats Life 3-2 to earn a spot in MSC Championship match

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson men's soccer defeated Life (Ga.) 3-2 on Thursday in the Mid-South Conference Semifinals at Joe Hood Field.

With the win, No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson (13-2) earns a spot in the championship match on Friday at 12 p.m. CT against the winner of second-seeded Campbellsville (Ky.) and third-seeded Cumberland (Tenn.).

Tyler Collishaw scored two goals for the Blue Raiders and picked up an assist. Franck Bikoya also picked up a goal and Andres Riquelme recorded an assist. William Diaz recorded 10 saves in the victory. Life (9-9) held a slight edge in shots 25-23 with Lindsey Wilson having the edge in shots on goal 13-12.

The Blue Raiders had a scoring chance in the first 16 seconds of the first half but were unable to capitalize. After a Life foul in the box, Mutaya Mwape had a penalty kick that rang off the post and Collishaw sent the rebound high over the goal.

Collishaw put Lindsey Wilson on the board first in the 14th minute. After a Running Eagle foul in the box, Collishaw sent the penalty kick to the lower left corner and the goalkeeper dove the opposite way. The Running Eagles would answer back with a goal in the 18th minute. Bastian Buechler sent a corner kick into the box where Marek Beno was able to head it in near post.

The Blue Raiders would retake the lead in the 27th minute. Collishaw sent a cross into the box which was redirected by Riquelme and fired into the back of the net by Bikoya to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-1 lead. Life would once again tie it up in the first half in the 40th minute. The Running Eagles sent a cross in the box that took a deflection and Beno hit it off the far post and it went in.

It was a physical first half that saw three cards in the first 16 minutes and 11 total fouls. Each team had 12 shots and seven on goal in the half.

Collishaw scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute. Collishaw fired a shot that the Running Eagle goalkeeper saved and he was able to score off the rebound to give the Blue Raiders a 3-2 lead.

The Blue Raiders advance to the MSC Tournament Finals and are looking for their 13th tournament title and first since 2012.

The championship match kicks off from Joe Hood Field at Warren Central High School on Friday at 12 p.m. CT.
