FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Second-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's basketball avoided an upset with a strong second half on both ends of the court to beat sixth-seeded Cumberlands (Ky.) 65-47 today in the Mid-South Conference Tournament semifinals at the Frankfort Convention Center.

The Blue Raiders (30-1) advance to face top-seeded Shawnee State (Ohio) in the championship game on Sunday.

Tied at 29-29 at the half, Lindsey Wilson outscored the Patriots (15-15) 36-18 over the final two periods to reach its first tournament final since 2008.

Lindsey Wilson closed the third quarter on an 11-2 run to break a 39-39 tie -- the ninth and last tie of the game.

Kayla Styles opened the third-quarter run with a basket and a free throw. Kayla Richardson followed with four freebies and Styles continued the run with two more free throws to give Lindsey Wilson a 48-41 lead. Heidi Huffman closed the quarter with a jumper from just outside the lane to push the lead to 50-41 at the end of the third.

Lindsey Wilson continued to separate itself from the Patriots in the final period.

The Blue Raiders built a 15-point lead midway through the quarter and ultimately an 18-point lead on two occasions including the when the buzzer sounded. Cumberlands scored just six points in the final frame.

Styles led the Blue Raiders with 16 points and 12 rebounds for her 15th double-double of the season. Richardson added 15 points and Chanel Roberts chipped in 10 in the win.

Cumberlands' Cheyenne Madden posted a game-high 24 points as the lone Patriot to reach double figures.

Cumberlands torched the nets in the opening period, making 10-of-12 shots to lead the Blue Raiders 24-20. A sluggish second quarter produced the 29-29 halftime tie. Lindsey Wilson grabbed control in the third quarter and did not relinquish it en route to the date with Shawnee State.

Lindsey Wilson ended the game shooting 48.9 percent (23-of-47) while limiting Cumberlands to 39.1 percent (18-of-46) following the hot start. Lindsey Wilson also forced the Patriots into 23 turnovers.

Tipoff for Sunday's championship game is slated for 1 p.m. CT.
