MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- Fifth-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer scored early and added on late to beat host Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) 3-0 today at Cougar Field.

Lindsey Wilson's Amara Safuan scored inside the first 10 minutes while Ivana Damnjanovic and Chiara Epifani tacked on late goals to help the Blue Raiders win their fifth straight season opener. Lindsey Wilson improves to 19-2-5 all-time in the first game of the season.

Safuan -- making her Lindsey Wilson debut -- put the Blue Raiders on top 1-0 with an unassisted goal in the ninth minute. She blasted a free kick from the corner of the 18-yard box to give Lindsey Wilson the early advantage.

The shot was just one of three in the first half for the Blue Raiders -- all on target. Mount Vernon Nazarene finished the opening half with four shots.

Lindsey Wilson held the 1-0 lead until the 87th minute when Damnjanovic scored her sixth career goal. The shot was part of a more aggressive offensive showing for the Blue Raiders, who finished the game out-shooting their host 14-6.

Epifani tallied the final goal of the afternoon -- her first career goal -- in the 90th minute to secure the 3-0 win.

Jovana Ivanovic and Eveljn Frigotto each played a half in goal for the Blue Raiders in the shutout. Ivanovic collected three saves while Frigotto stopped two Cougar shots.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday, Aug. 26, as the Blue Raiders host No. 14-ranked Martin Methodist (Tenn.) at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
