No. 10 Women's Soccer falls to No. 1 Spring Arbor at the Lindsey Wilson College Classic

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Blue Raiders women's soccer team lost 3-1 to No. 1 Spring Arbor during the first day of the Lindsey Wilson College Classic at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

The Blue Raiders were outshot 13-12 including 7-5 in shots on goal for the match. The loss brings Lindsey Wilson's record to 1-2-3 on the season while the Cougars move to a perfect 7-0-0.

Spring Arbor broke the 0-0 draw in the 31st minute when a cross by Aubrey Schierbeek found its way to Bethany Balcer in the box who beat Blue Raider goalkeeper Jovana Ivanovic. The goal snapped Ivanovic's 362-minute scoreless streak.

Lindsey Wilson quickly answered with a goal of their own during the 31st minute. Veronica Kurtz was brought down in the box earning the Blue Raiders a spot kick. Sanna Svensson delivered an elevated and powerful penalty kick to beat a diving Ashley Timmons in the upper left-hand corner of the goal, leveling the score at 1-1.

In the second half, the Spring Arbor attack broke down the LWC defense and found a way to increase their lead in the 55th minute to 2-1. A cross by Haley Lord from the left half found Bethany Balcer who was able to head the ball past a sprawling Ivanovic.

Bethany Balcer scored her third goal of the match in the 63rd minute with a one-time finish to the upper-right corner of the goal on a cross from Jacquelyn Martin.

Amara Safuan registered two shots in the match while Ivanovic recorded four saves in net for the Blue Raiders.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action Saturday when they face No. 18 Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) at 7 p.m. CT in the final day of the Lindsey Wilson Classic at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
