Box Score

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – A pair of late second-half goals from Emelie Liljered helped lift the No. 12-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Shawnee State (Ohio) on Tuesday evening at Shawnee Turf.

Liljered collected both assisted goals with less than 10 minutes to play to move Lindsey Wilson to 3-3-3 overall and 1-0-0 in Mid-South Conference play. Shawnee State falls to 6-2-1 with the loss and 0-1-0 in conference play. LWC is now 10-0-0 all-time against the Bears.

The first 45 minutes went by scoreless despite both sides recording multiple shots on goal. Shawnee State had the first shot of the contest just five minutes in, but LWC keeper Eveljn Frigotto, who was making her first collegiate start, turned away the attempt. Frigotto again answered the call in the 41st minute by turning away the final Bear shot on target of the half.

While Shawnee State managed five shots in the opening frame, two on target, Lindsey Wilson fired off 10 total shots, five on goal, but each was saved by starting Shawnee State goalkeeper Michaela Garner. Emma Gustafsson accounted for three shots, two on goal, in the first 45 minutes of action.

The Blue Raiders had an excellent chance to break the deadlock in the 58th minute when LWC was awarded a penalty, but Ivana Damnjanovic sent the spot kick wide. Just over 10 minutes later, Emma Lindell nearly put LWC ahead, but her shot hit the post.

The breakthrough finally came in the 81st minute when Liljered netted a goal past Garner with an assist from Shelby Austin. It marked the first goal of the year for Liljered and second assist on the season for Austin.

Liljered was back at it again in the 87th minute when again she fired home to complete her brace on a pass from Hannah Schrage, her first assist of the season, adding a late insurance goal for the Blue Raiders.

Lindsey Wilson finished the contest outshooting Shawnee State 22-7, including 10-4 in shots on goal. Frigotto recorded the four saves, two off her season high of six en route to the win.

The Blue Raiders return to action on Oct. 3 when they head to Georgetown (Ky.) for another MSC matchup.
