Box Score LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Two second-half goals, three minutes apart, helped No. 19 Georgia Gwinnett upset No. 10 Lindsey Wilson women's soccer 2-1 tonight at Grizzly Soccer Complex.
Victoria Bischof and Lauren Moss scored in the 72nd and 75th minutes to snap the Blue Raiders' season-long three-game winning streak. Lindsey Wilson falls to 6-3-2 on the season with the setback.
Lindsey Wilson grabbed the first-half lead with an Amara Safuan goal in waning seconds of the opening half.
Emma Lindell and Sina Cavelti combined to assist the Safuan's first goal of the season that found the back of the net with just three seconds left before the break. Lindell and Cavelti connected in the Georgia Gwinnett defensive half and played a ball into the penalty box where Safuan ran onto the pass and beat GGC goalkeeper Elisa Randel for the 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the Grizzlies nearly tied the game in the 58th minute. Nicole Rodriguez sent a shot on frame only to have Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Jovana Ivanovic kick it away for one of her five saves in the match.
Lindsey Wilson had a chance to add to its lead in the 71st minute as Veronica Kurtz made a terrific run down the left flank, but her shot against Randel sailed just wide to keep the score at 1-0.
Georgia Gwinnett took advantage of the miss and scored the game-tying goal in the 72nd minute. Bischof slid the ball past Ivanovic deep in the penalty area after she powered her way beyond the Lindsey Wilson backline. Three minutes later, Moss scored the game-winner with a blast from just outside the penalty box into the upper right corner of the goal for the 2-1 lead.
The Grizzlies ended the game out-shooting the Blue Raiders 16-12, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 26, as the Blue Raiders host Shawnee State (Ohio) at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
