Women's Soccer and Cumberlands play to a 2-2 draw

Box Score

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- An 88th minute Cumberlands (Ky.) goal snatched a victory from the Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team in a 2-2 draw on Tuesday at the UC Soccer Complex.

Lindsey Wilson (3-2-2, 1-0-1 in the Mid-South Conference) grabbed a 2-1 lead with an own goal in the 83rd minute. Sina Cavelti sent a shot towards the goal only to have a Cumberlands defender knock it into her own goal to give the Blue Raiders the short-lived advantage.

Cumberlands' Hannah Truckenmiller got the equalizer five minutes later in the up-and-down the field battle. The Patriots (10-1-1, 1-0-1) outshot the Blue Raiders 25-20 during the match with both teams hitting the target 10 times to keep each goalkeeper busy.

Jovana Ivanovic and Cumberlands' Christie Funk each had identical lines, allowing two goals while collecting eight saves in goal for their respective team.

Cumberlands' Jenna Rockwell opened the game's scoring in the 26th minute to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.

Yvonne Ploeg knotted the score at 1-1 in the 44th minute off a Hannah Schrage assist to send the teams into the break even. The goal is Ploeg's third of the season and 39th of her career -- which moves her into a ninth-place tie on the program's all-time goals scored list. Alicia Thoresen also has three goals this season for the Blue Raiders.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 5, as the Blue Raiders host Georgetown (Ky.) at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
