Box Score PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Pikeville (Ky.) 69-55 Thursday in a Mid-South Conference matchup at the East Ky. Expo Center.
Kayla Styles recorded her 14th double-double of the season scoring a game-high 26 points on 12-of-24 shooting while grabbing 12 rebounds. Styles also recorded two blocks which now makes her the program leader in career blocks with 104. Reagan Turner added 14 points while Teanna Curry chipped in with 12. Gerda Paulauskaite recorded a game-high 13 rebounds and three blocks.
Lindsey Wilson (20-4, 7-2 MSC) outshot the Bears (12-13, 3-6 MSC) 46.8 percent to 33.3 percent. The Blue Raiders connected on 5-of-15 attempts from beyond the arc while shooting a season-low 42.9 percent from the charity stripe. Lindsey Wilson held a 43-31 advantage in rebounds.
After Turner tied the game at two with 9:16 to play in the first quarter, the two teams went scoreless for over three minutes. Aundrea Matchen put the Bears up 7-4 with 5:13 to play in the quarter. Lindsey Wilson took a 16-8 lead into the second after ending the first on a 12-1 run propelled by seven Curry points. The Blue Raiders shot 7-of-17 from the field and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc while limiting Pikeville to just 21.4 percent shooting.
Jamie Castle opened the second quarter with a basket to trim the Blue Raider lead to 16-10. Lindsey Wilson responded with a 16-1 run that spanned almost six minutes to give Lindsey Wilson a 32-11 lead with 3:28 to play in the half. Styles led the way during the run with eight points. The two teams traded baskets to the end the half as the Blue Raiders led 37-17.
Styles led the way at the half with 14 points, 12 of which came in the second quarter. Curry added 10 points while Paulauskaite grabbed 10 rebounds in the half. The Blue Raiders shot 48.9 percent from the field in the first half while limiting Pikeville to 6-of-29 shooting.
Pikeville trimmed the Blue Raider lead to 37-23 beginning the third quarter on a 6-0 run. Lindsey Wilson responded pushing the lead back to 19 points with a 5-0 run of its own. The Bears trimmed their deficit to 44-28 with 2:45 to play in the third before the Blue Raiders ended the quarter on a 6-2 run to take a 50-30 lead into the fourth. The Bears outscored Lindsey Wilson 25-19 in the fourth quarter and ended the game on a 10-4 run as the Blue Raiders picked up the 69-55 victory.
Matchen scored a team-high 16 points for Pikeville while Adison Corder and Kayla Mullins scored nine apiece.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday for a top-10 matchup against No. 2-ranked Shawnee State (Ohio) at 2 p.m. CT at Biggers Sports Center.
