Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team opened the 2018 season against Grace (Ind.) with a competitive double overtime draw on Friday night at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (0-0-1) had multiple chances to score, but were unable to link up for a potential winner. Grace (1-0-1) had a shot at a golden goal with an empty net in the second overtime period, but also missed the opportunity.
The Blue Raiders had 21 shots total with six on goal, out-shooting the Lancers who had 12 shots with three on goal. The offensive attack for the Blue Raiders looked promising with Andrew Revanales tallying five shots and three on goal and Neville Morgan and Rainer De Jesus following behind with four shots each.
William Diaz came in clutch to hold the draw with two saves in the first overtime and one at the beginning of the second, including winning a one-on-one after a Lancer snuck behind the LWC back line. The Blue Raider defensive unit held strong for most of the night, limiting Grace to three shots on goal, all in overtime.
Lindsey Wilson was fortunate to pull away with the result as the Lancers' Cody Boerema missed a wide open shot from four-yards out. After a ball over the top that Diaz was unable to collect, Boerema pounced on the loose ball but pushed the attempt wide.
The Blue Raiders return to action on Sunday against Florida National at 7 p.m. CT.
