Liljered's four-goal afternoon propels women's soccer to 7-0 win over Pikeville

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Emelie Liljered scored four goals and three-across just six minutes of the second half to propel the Blue Raiders to a 7-0 victory over Mid-South Conference opponent Pikeville at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

The Blue Raiders controlled possession in their attacking third for most of the match as they outpaced the Bears in shots 47-1, and shots on goal 21-0. LWC also held a sizable advantage in corner kicks as they managed an18-0 advantage over their counterparts.

Despite outshooting the Bears 16-0 over the first 25 minutes the Blue Raiders would struggle to capitalize on their opportunities as only four shots found their way on target.

The Blue Raiders capitalized on two corner kicks over the final 15 minutes of the first half. Thea Birgerud broke through during the 31st minute when she sent a ball into the box off a corner kick that found its way into the back of the goal.

Lindsey Wilson would strike again off another corner in the 38th minute. Birgerud again played the corner, this one finding Emelie Liljered who was able to head one past the Pikeville goalkeeper.

Sina Cavelti scored her tenth goal of the season with 24 seconds left in the half. Maria Frazier played the ball ahead to Cavelti who took a few touches before slotting one past her defender and the keeper for the score.

Liljered started off the second half with the hot foot as she scored three straight goals in the 51st, 54th and 57th minutes to push her game total to four and season total to eight goals. Lina Benthien, Cavelti and Alicia Thoresen picked up assists on the plays.

Frazier would get in on the action during the 71st minute as she scored off a Paula Espinoza assist for the final Lindsey Wilson tally of the night.

Lindsey Wilson returns to play on Tuesday, Oct. 15, when they take on Cumberland (Tenn.) at 5 p.m. CT at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
