Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 7-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team defeated Pikeville (Ky.) 1-0 on Friday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium in Mid-South Conference action. Despite leading in nearly every statistical category the Blue Raiders would only slot one goal past the Pikeville (3-7-1, 0-3-0 MSC) defense.
The Blue Raiders (8-2-0, 4-0-0 MSC) Akean Shackleford would score what turned out to be the game-winning goal during just the 15th minute. Shackleford received a pass from Neville Morgan just outside the 18-yard box that he then blasted into the back of the net for the score.
The goal was Shackleford's 12th of the season, accomplishing the mark after playing in seven games. It was Morgan's fifth assist of the season.
Pikeville nearly tied the game late in the second half when the Blue Raiders were called for a foul inside the penalty area. The play resulted in a penalty kick by Pikeville's Eric Bernabeu with just over ten minutes to play. Bernabeu's attempt crashed into the crossbar and was cleared to safety by the LWC defense, preserving the Blue Raiders clean sheet.
Lindsey Wilson pushed the pace in the game, outshooting Pikeville 43-7 including 18-1 in shots on goal. The Blue Raiders also managed 17 corner kicks while the Bears didn't receive any during the match.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 15, when they welcome Cumberland (Tenn.) to Walter S. Reuling Stadium at 5 p.m. CT.
