Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 15-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team fell in a tough NAIA top-15 non-conference matchup against No. 13 Talladega 75-66 on Wednesday evening at Biggers Sports Center. The loss was Lindsey Wilson's first of the season as they move to 7-1.
Reagan Turner scored a game-high 22 points as J'Nayah Hall recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Haeli Howard was the only other Blue Raider in double figures with 11 points.
Lindsey Wilson shot 43.1 percent from the floor as they held Talladega (8-1) to an even 40 percent mark. The Tornadoes dominated the glass outrebounding LWC 48-32 while pouring in 19 second-chance points. The Blue Raiders struggle from the charity stripe only making 18 of their 28 attempts.
Despite two turnovers to start the contest, Lindsey Wilson scored on five straight possessions to an 11-3 advantage over the first three minutes of action. Talladega trimmed the LWC lead to as few as four points at 13-9. Another Blue Raider surge pushed the LWC lead back to eight points, this time at 19-11 with three minutes to play. Lindsey Wilson led 23-16 after ten minutes.
Talladega rolled early in the second frame as they cut the LWC lead to three points at 28-25. Despite pushing their lead back to eight points with two quick scores the Tornadoes tied the game at 33 with two minutes to play in the half. Neither team would cash in on a combined five attempts as they entered the break deadlocked.
Lindsey Wilson struggled to find a rhythm in the quarter, knocking down 4-of-14 attempts and scored their last field goal at the 6:09 mark of the half.
Talladega took their first lead of the game with a three to open the half but two free throws by Harris and two baskets by Turner gave LWC the lead back at 39-38. In a back and forth battle the game would be tied at 42 with 4:46 to play. The Tornadoes closed the half on a 14-5 run giving them their largest lead of the game to that point at 56-47.
The Tornados started fast in the final stanza as they pushed their advantage to 14 with 5:34 to play. Lindsey Wilson made a game of it scoring the games next 10 points to trail by just four points at 68-64 with just over one minute to play. The LWC defense held Talladega to no field goals over a 4:43 span late in the action.
Talladega produced one final push as they were able to survive Lindsey Wilson's upset bid to take the game by a final score of 75-66.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Friday when they welcome Miami Hamilton (Ohio) to Biggers Sports Center at 3 p.m. CT.
