COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team and No. 10 Spring Arbor (Mich.) played 110 minutes to a 1-1 draw on Thursday evening at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

The Cougars recorded a significant 25-12 advantage in shots as they put 11 of their attempts on target to the Blue Raiders eight. Spring Arbor also held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Lindsey Wilson got off to a quick start when they made the most of their first set piece of the match. Thea Birgerud set up from just inside Cougar territory and played a ball into the penalty box. Emelie Liljered did the rest, using a well-timed header to sneak one past Cougar goalkeeper Emily Ponstein.

Spring Arbor received a penalty kick in the 29th minute after LWC was flagged for a handball inside the penalty box. The attempt by SAU's Madison Marshall was driven hard toward the right post, but a diving Eveljn Frigotto was able to block the attempt away safely.

Despite LWC leading on the scoreboard at the break, Spring Arbor held a 9-5 advantage in shots, including a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. The Cougars also tallied three corner kicks. Frigotto blocked away all four shots she faced.

Lindsey Wilson nearly doubled their lead twice early in the second half with two shots on goal. The best chance came via Amara Safuan when she broke free from 12-yards out and fired a shot that was blocked away by Ponstein.

LWC kept applying offensive pressure in the half as they recorded four more shots, all of them finding their way on goal to the 66-minute mark of the contest. None of the scoring chances resulted in a goal as Ponstein was a perfect 6-for-6 on saves.

Spring Arbor leveled the score with just over 21 minutes to play when Becca Mindling assisted on a Mackenzie Selvius goal.

Over the final 20 minutes of regulation, SAU placed six of their seven shots on target as the Blue Raiders would only manage one shot attempt that sailed wide of the frame.

Neither the Blue Raiders nor the Cougars would record a shot on goal in the first overtime period as the squads jostled for possession in the middle third.

Spring Arbor would nearly put the game away with a golden goal in the 103rd minute, but the play was nullified when they were flagged for being offside. SAU continued to be the aggressors but the Blue Raider defensive efforts would be enough to produce a draw.
