Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team defeated No. 14-ranked John Brown (Ark.) in overtime at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. It marks the second straight contest of the Lindsey Wilson Classic the Blue Raiders have gone to overtime.

In the 93rd minute of play, Amara Safuan rocketed a 35-yard shot that flew over the outreached hands of Caitlyn Logan. The golden goal secured the victory for the Blue Raiders.

The first half was evenly paced as both teams found themselves controlling possession in their attacking thirds regularly but neither squad was able to capitalize.

Lindsey Wilson tallied seven shots, three of the attempts on goal. The Golden Eagles recorded six shots in the half but none of the attempts were on target.

With just over 13 minutes to play in the half the John Brown defense managed to stop three consecutive Blue Raider scoring chances as both keeper and defenders blocked away LWC attempts. Alicia Thoresen and Safuan attempts were blocked away by a defender before Thoresen got the ball back and was denied by JBU goal keeper Logan. All three attempts came from inside the penalty area.

The Blue Raiders would finally break through on a corner kick in the 48th minute. Thea Birgerud set a curving ball into the six-yard box that was tracked by Sina Cavelti and headed home for the score and a 1-0 lead.

Lindsey Wilson's advantage was short lived as the Golden Eagles capitalized on a corner kick of their own in the 59th minute when Anne Metz netted one past LWC keeper Eveljn Frigotto. Both squads found quality chances late in the game but overtime was the result after not convering on their opportunities.

This result concludes the Lindsey Wilson Classic and the Blue Raiders improve to 4-1-1 on the season.

The Blue Raiders next take on Martin Methodist (Tenn.) on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
