Box Score LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 12-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team defeated (RV) Keiser (Fla.) 2-0 during their final match of the Grizzly Classic. The Blue Raiders finish the classic with a 2-0 record after defeating No. 14 Mobile (Ala.) 2-1 on Friday.
Lindsey Wilson dominated play in the first half managing to record 14 shots, six on goal all while limiting Keiser to just three-shot. Six of the attempts for LWC came via the foot of Akean Shackleford as he netted one of his three goals in the half.
Rainer De Jesus scored the Blue Raiders first goal of the game off a corner kick as Shackleford and Bruno Henrique picked up the assists.
Shackleford's first goal came during the 22nd minute when a De Jesus cross was slotted far post for the score.
For the second straight contest, the Blue Raiders would be forced to play most of the second half at a disadvantage after they were flagged for a red card during the 56th minute.
Despite playing down a man, Shackleford continued his offensive performance in the second half scoring two more times. He scored his second goal of the game in 77th minute when he found himself all alone with the Keiser goalkeeper and won the one-on-one battle.
Shackleford netted his third goal of the contest in the 88th minute when he once again found himself all alone with the keeper, this one coming after Wendel Gabriel played a long ball over the top of the opposing defense.
The Blue Raiders outshot Keiser 19-11 including 9-6 in shots on goal. David Coffey anchored the LWC shutout in goal as he stopped all six shots he faced.
Lindsey Wilson returns home for their next match on Thursday when they take on the University of Maine at Fort Kent. The match starts at 7 p.m. CT at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
