COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team fell in overtime 3-2 to Maine at Fort Kent on Thursday evening at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

The Blue Raiders (4-2-0) found themselves leading the match 2-0 early in the second half but the Bengals (7-0-0) clawed their way back into the match with three straight goals. The contest was a physical battle that featured 39 fouls, four yellow cards and one red card.

Akean Shackleford scored the Blue Raiders first goal of the night during the 29th minute. Wendel Gabriel charged across midfield before playing one-off to a streaking Shackleford. The senior then did the rest as he got in behind enemy defenders before striking one past a diving Bengals goalkeeper.

Shackleford's strike is his sixth of the season after playing in just his fourth contest.

The Blue Raiders would accrue three more shots on goal in the half with six total shots. The Bengals tallied five shots but just one of the attempts made their way on target.

Lindsey Wilson struck early in the second half when Rainer De Jesus played a through ball to the left flank. Bruno Henrique was on the receiving end and dribbled towards the goal to score from just inside the penalty area.

The Bengals got on the board with their first goal off a Blue Raider miscue in the 62nd minute. On a Lindsey Wilson throw-in, Travar McCollah would steal the ball away and drive into the penalty area and finish near post, cutting the LWC lead in half at 2-1.

The Bengals gained an advantage when Lindsey Wilson's goalkeeper David Coffey received a red card with just over three minutes to play. A Fort Kent player broke in behind the LWC defense where he faced a one-on-one with the keeper. A charging Coffey collided with his challenger resulting in the card.

Just moments later in the 89th minute, Fort Kent was able to level the score, doing so off a set-piece. Aaron Boateng was able to one-touch the ball for the score off a free kick from Travar McCalloh.

The Bengals ended the contest when they scored the golden goal during the 93rd minute. Ryan Merckel gathered his own rebound from close quarters to the LWC goal before finished into the upper right corner of the goal, ending the game at a 3-2 result.

Lindsey Wilson returns to the pitch on Oct. 2 when they kick off Mid-South Conference action with a game against Georgetown (Ky.) on the road.
