Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team overcame a 14 point first-quarter deficit to defeat Cumberlands (Ky.) 76-64 on the road. With the win, the Blue Raiders finish their regular season campaign with a 25-5 overall record and a 13-3 mark in the Mid-South Conference.
Lindsey Wilson opened the contest with sloppy play as they committed 11 turnovers in the first half but turned things around in the second half to only turn the ball over three more times. The Blue Raiders shot 41.4 percent from the floor while the Patriots (19-10, 6-9 MSC) managed a 39.1 mark. Cumberlands attacked the glass, managing a 35-26 rebounding advantage but a 26-16 points off turnovers advantage in favor of LWC helped guide the Blue Raiders to victory.
Reagan Turner led the Blue Raiders with 29 points going a perfect 9-of-9 at the charity stripe. DeAsia Outlaw had 14 points and six rebounds as Jynea Harris managed 12 points and Maleigha Oldham added 10. J'Nayah Hall just missed out on a double-double, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds.
Following a shaky first quarter that saw the Blue Raiders trailing by 12 at 23-11 after ten minutes, LWC began to chip away at their deficit. Over the first five minutes of the second frame the Cumberlands lead hovered around 11 points before LWC made a run.
From the 5:28 mark of the quarter to the 1:53 mark Lindsey Wilson managed a 12-2 scoring spurt – seven points by Turner – to trail by just one point at 31-30. The Patriots closed the quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 36-30 lead into the locker room.
The second half was all Lindsey Wilson as they outscored the Patriots 46-28 over the final 20 minutes of action. LWC took their first lead of the contest since early in the first quarter at the 8:15 mark of the third off a Turner three. The rest of the quarter was a back and forth affair as neither team would lead by more than four points until the final seconds.
Cumberlands went just 1-of-6 from the field but made 11 points via the charity stripe as the Blue Raiders took a 54-49 lead into the fourth.
Lindsey Wilson pushed their lead to 11 points just three minutes into the quarter before seeing their lead dissipate to a 64-60 lead with just under four to play. Lindsey Wilson would close things out on a 12-4 run to take the game 76-64.
The Blue Raiders open postseason play on Thursday, March 5, when they compete at the Mid-South Conference Championship in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
