PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The No. 14-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated No. 7-ranked Shawnee State (Ohio) 84-71 on Saturday afternoon at Waller Gymnasium. A strong defensive effort helped guide the Blue Raiders to the victory, forcing 21 Shawnee State turnovers in the contest.

Reagan Turner scored a game-high 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting as Maleigha Oldham trailed right behind with 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Jynea Harris chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds, as DeAsia Outlaw finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Brandie Snow scored a team-high 20 points for SSU.

The Blue Raiders shot 41.6% from the field, while the Bears connected on 53.8% of their field goal attempts. LWC won the rebounding battle by eight, while grabbing 11 offensive rebounds compared to the Bears two.

Lindsey Wilson began the game slow, as they connected on just three of their first eight field goal attempts. On the other side, Shawnee State began 7-of-7 shooting from the field for an early 15-7 advantage at the first called timeout with 4:46 remaining in the quarter. However, the Blue Raiders began to chip into the early deficit, as a Harris three-pointer with 18 seconds remaining in the quarter made the score 21-18 in favor of the Bears after one. On offense, Harris led the Blue Raiders in scoring with nine points. On defense, LWC forced eight Shawnee State first quarter turnovers.

Lindsey Wilson took a 24-23 lead with 8:11 on the clock after Oldham executed an old-fashioned three-point play. The Blue Raiders shifted the momentum in their favor, as a Turner made jumper from the elbow with 4:06 remaining expanded their lead to six. Shawnee State's Sydney King connected on a three-pointer with time winding down in the quarter to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 41-38 heading into the locker room.

The first half scoring was led by Turner, who notched 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, including a 2-of-4 mark from three. Harris trailed close behind with 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting. Anyia Pride and Bailey Cummins each led SSU with 13 points. On defense, Lindsey Wilson forced 12 turnovers and won the rebounding battle by two.

Oldham entered the third quarter as the top asset scoring the ball for the Blue Raiders, as she quickly scored 11 third quarter points on three made three-pointers and a layup off a steal. Lindsey Wilson held a 59-48 lead with 4:58 remaining in the third. Turnovers continued to plague the Bears in the quarter, as they pushed their total to 19 for the game trailing 67-57 to the No. 14-ranked Blue Raiders heading into the final quarter.

The final quarter began with Shawnee State turning up the aggression on both ends of the floor attempting to climb back into the ballgame. However, two critical missed layups with the momentum beginning to shift for the Bears helped Lindsey Wilson keep control of the lead. Outlaw proved to be the late hero for the Blue Raiders, as she added eight fourth quarter points to help stop numerous SSU runs. LWC completes the season sweep over Shawnee State and remaining atop the Mid-South Conference standings with Campbellsville (Ky.).

The Blue Raiders are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 12 where they travel to Fisk (Tenn.) for a non-conference battle. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. CT in Nashville, Tennessee.
