WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's swim team racked up 586.5 points across three days of competition at the Mid-South Conference Swimming Championship to finish in second place.
Calvin Coetzee led the Blue Raiders all weekend as he notched his third MSC record in as many days, doing so in the 100-yard freestyle. Coetzee earned First Team All-MSC honors during the event. He added another first-team honor when himself, Tyler King, James de Goede, and Ron Wolfart all paired up in the 400-yard freestyle relay to capture first place with a time of 3:06.31.
William Thilwind and Reece Kincaid also earned conference honors on the final day of action – second team – doing so during the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard butterfly, respectively.
Coetzee set the benchmark in the 100-yard freestyle prelims as he raced his way to MSC Championship Meet best time of 45.41 seconds. Tyler King and James de Goede also made the finals as they finished in fourth and eighth, respectively. Coetzee bested his own record in the finals with a time of 45.19 seconds. De Goede finished fifth with a time of 48.49 seconds as King took seventh at 48.03 seconds.
Thilwind swam his way to the fastest prelim time in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:58.07. He dropped one position in the finals after improving his time to 1:55.29. Kincaid took the second seed into the finals of the 200-yard butterfly after touching the wall in 1:59.80. He earned all-conference honors after touching the wall in 1:55.78.
Ron Wolfart took third in the prelims of the 200-yard breaststroke with a B cut time of 2:14.25. He went on to finish third in the finals with a time of 2:09.78. Ricky Dungan took sixth place in the 1650-yard freestyle with his A cut time of 16:58.23. Michael Peck also competed in the event, finishing eighth with an A cut of 17:26.55.
Cumberlands (Ky.) captured first place with 875.5 points as Loyola (La.) took third with 486 points.
The Blue Raiders return to the pool on March 4-7 when they travel to Knoxville, Tennessee and the Allan Jones Aquatic Center for the NAIA National Championship.
