KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson men's swim team finished in third place at the NAIA Swimming National Championship. The placement is the best finish in the history of the men's program.
The Blue Raiders racked up 267 total points for the championship as Keiser (Fla.) took home the team title and SCAD Savannah finished in second.
Calvin Coetzee took fourth in the prelims of the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.19 seconds. He later went on to finish in second during the finals with a time of 44.86 seconds. He earned All-American honors for the performance.
The pairing of James de Goede, Tyler King, Ron Wolfart and Coetzee clocked the fastest prelim time of 1:04.48 in the 400-yard freestyle. The quartet shaved nearly a second off their finals time but finished in third place after touching the wall in 3:03.50 for NAIA All-American honors.
Wolfart, King and de Goede also competed in the prelims of the event as they finished in 17th, 20th and 22nd, respectively.
William Thilwind competed in the 200-yard backstroke to finish just outside of All-American honors in ninth place of the prelims as he touched the wall in 1:53.10. He held his place in the finals after bettering his time to 1:53.85.
Reece Kincaid qualified for the B finals of the 200-yard butterfly in 15th with a time of 1:54.86. He held his position in the final as he touched the wall at 1:55.37.
Ricky Dungan competed in the 1650-yard freestyle where he finished in 27th with a time of 17.03.35.
