Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 2-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team used a strong first half to advance past No. 3-seeded Georgia Gwinnett in their first game of the NAIA Opening Round Indianapolis Bracket.
The Blue Raiders defeated the Grizzlies 5-0, due in large part to an offensive attack that was in sync all afternoon. LWC tacked on another first half goal in the 28th minute.
Minni Laukka played a long ball shy of midfield in LWC territory that just reached outside the left penalty area. A charging Georgia Gwinnett keeper in Matilda Johansson looked to clear the ball but Larissa Modesto De Souza blocked the clearance and finished into a wide-open goal uncontested.
Moments later it was Rayssa Neres Gomes De Souza increasing the Blue Raider advantage to 2-0. Tracy Jones broke into the penalty area before playing one-off to Alicia Thoresen on the right flank. The midfielder then played a high curving cross to Rayssa Neres Gomes De Souza at the back post who headed home her attempt.
In the 28th minute, Larissa Modesto De Souza picked up her second of the game. Rayssa Neres Gomes De Souza played one into the penalty area for Emma Lindell who slotted one through a channel to the top of the box that Larissa Modesto De Souza was able to place into the lower-left corner of the goal.
Out of halftime, the Blue Raiders tacked on two more goals.
The first came off a free-kick deep in LWC territory, Britt Tonis played one deep downfield for Yudaya Nakayenze. Nakayenze let it bounce in front of her before taking one touch inside the penalty area and slotting her shot through the goalkeeper's legs.
Lindell scored the final strike of the contest off an assist from Nakayenze. Nakayenze gathered the ball in the center of the field from 20-yard out before playing one into a streaking Lindell who snuck behind GGC defenders for a goal from just eight yards out.
