Box Score MARIETTA, Ga. - After having not stepped on the pitch in over two weeks, the Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team returned to Georgia for a Mid-South match with Life.
Despite squandering an early two-goal lead, the Blue Raiders turned in a dominant second half en route to a 5-2 victory on Sunday afternoon at Lupo Family Field.
Cyrus Harmon tallied his team-leading second and third goals of the season, while Tajay Reid, Vitor De Lima, and Julien Gastaldy each notched their first scores of the 2021 campaign.
Rainer De Jesus contributed two assists on the afternoon, as Harmon, David Ibramkadic, Alexander Koziolek, and David Coffey also cashed in a dime each.
Along with the first assist of his career, Coffey recorded one save between the posts for Lindsey Wilson.
In a rematch of last season's conference tournament championship match, both sides put forth a physically-spirited fight in the opening stages.
It was not until the 32-minute mark that De Lima was able to slip a shot past Life's Fabian Pekruhl to open the scoring off a pass from Ibramkadic.
The visitors struck again just eleven minutes later after a dribbler from De Jesus snuck past the defense and found a streaking Harmon. The senior was able to deke out the Running Eagles' netminder and put home a second goal for Lindsey Wilson.
The home side would generate some momentum, however, taking advantage of seven offside calls against the Blue Raiders in the final 20 minutes of the half to quickly knot the contest at 2-2.
After stepping out from the halftime huddle, it was back to the same action that had defined much of the first half.
Lindsey Wilson finally cut the tension and restored their lead at the 25-minute mark. Sending the ball deep into the attacking zone, Coffey connected with Harmon who then proceeded to beat the approaching goalkeeper through the legs before finishing the play in the back of the net.
Reid and Gastaldy would ice the result for the Blue Raiders with a goal each over the ensuing ten minutes.
At the end of the day, Lindsey Wilson outshot Life 17-15, including seven shots on goal to three.
The Blue Raiders open the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday, Feb. 23 when they host Cumberlands (Ky.). Match time is slated for 5 p.m. CT following the women's contest.
