PORTSMOUTH, Ohio - For the second time in three days, the Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team hit the road for a Mid-South clash and returned home a winner. Their most recent outing on Sunday closed with a 2-1 result over hosts Shawnee State.

It is the third different one-goal victory for the Blue Raiders (3-1, 3-1 MSC) this season, and first in regulation time.

Minni Laukka tallied her first goal of the season while Alicia Thoresen's late difference-maker was her first of the 2021 campaign.

After playing nearly 80 minutes of scoreless action, a second consecutive overtime looked inevitable for Lindsey Wilson, but a set-piece opened the door for the visitors as a corner kick delivered in by Laukka found its way past Shawnee State goalkeeper, Shelbi Ritchie.

Desperate to draw level, the Bears needed only five minutes to knot the contest at 1-1 on a goal scored by Alba Closa Tarres.

However, the Blue Raiders found a way to one up their conference-rival, restoring their one goal lead just 22 seconds later after a nifty pass from Britt Tonis met the foot of Thoresen who was able to beat the Bears' netminder for the go-ahead goal.

Escoba produced a game-high five shots and three on goal for Lindsey Wilson.

Eveljn Frigotto notched her third win of the season in goal for the Blue Raiders, collecting five saves.

Neither side could find the back of the net for a majority of the afternoon, as both teams struggled to weather the harsh conditions rolling through the Ohio-Kentucky border.

Lindsey Wilson opens the March portion of their 2021 schedule on March 7 at Georgetown (Ky.). That conference match is slated for an early afternoon start of 2 p.m. CT.
