Women's Soccer extends winning streak, beats Freed-Hardeman 3-0

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- No. 13-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer scored a season-high three goals in a 3-0 win over visiting Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) today at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

The Blue Raider defense also posted their third consecutive shutout to improve to 6-1 overall and in the Mid-South Conference this season.

Alicia Thoresen put the Blue Raiders in front in the 23rd minute with an unassisted goal. Thoresen blasted a free kick that ricocheted off the Freed-Hardman wall and into the right side of the goal to give the Blue Raiders the 1-0 advantage.

After taking the 1-0 lead into the second half, Lindsey Wilson wasted little time in the second frame doubling its lead.

Britt Tonis scored off a Silvia Marchesi cross from deep inside the penalty box in the 50th minute to push Lindsey Wilson in front 2-0. The goal was Tonis' first career tally as a Blue Raider.

Yudaya Nakayenze capped the afternoon's scoring in the 57th minute with her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Claudia Santillan Escobar assisted on the goal by playing a through ball to Nakayenze who beat the keeper for the 3-0 lead and eventual win.

Lindsey Wilson finished the game with a 15-5 shots advantage.

Eveljn Frigotto stopped two Lion (2-5, 1-5 in the MSC) shots in her 82 minutes of action in goal for the Blue Raiders. Gabby Duerson secured the clean sheet with a scoreless final eight minutes.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday, March 16, as the Blue Raiders host No. 25-ranked Bethel (Tenn.) at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
