Men's Soccer Wins Six Goal Thriller on Senior Day

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The No. 8 Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team (6-2-2, 6-1-2 Mid-South Conference) got back to winning ways Tuesday night, defeating Cumberland (Tenn.) 4-2 in a six-goal thriller on senior day.

The Blue Raiders outshot the Phoenix 16-10 with seven shots on goal to the Phoenix's five. Lindsey Wilson made three saves in the game through Henrique Cavalini to Cumberland's two.

The Phoenix got off to a great start early on in the match, scoring with only two minutes on the clock. Bakary Bagayoko grabbed his first of two goals tonight after breaking through the Lindsey Wilson defense to receive a pass and finished low under the body of Cavalini for the 1-0 lead.

The Blue Raiders got back on the board after Neville Morgan was taken down in the box winning the Blue Raiders their first penalty of the season. Rainer De Jesus stepped up to take the penalty and calmly slotted it under the right side of the goalkeeper for the equalizer and his first goal of the season. Both teams entered the break tied at 1-1.

Cyrus Harmon got his eighth goal of the season and put Lindsey Wilson back in front after bringing down a pass from David Ibramkadic from the far side, dribbled back into the box, and curled it into the top right corner for 2-1.

The Blue Raiders would extend their lead to 3-1 three minutes later after Morgan crossed a ball that found the head of Ezequiel Hernandez, who played it off his head to the head of Vitor De Lima, to score his third goal of the season.

The Phoenix came back 11 minutes later to cut the Blue Raider lead to within one after Bagayoko brought down a pass from over his head and found the far right corner to make it 3-2.

Lindsey Wilson had the final word in the match after winning their second penalty of the game when De Lima this time was brought down in the box. De Jesus again stepped up to take the penalty, putting it away for the fourth goal of the game and second goal of the season for the senior.

The Blue Raiders continue their season on the road, traveling to Pikeville on Tuesday, March 30. The game is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. CT.
