Women's Track & Field Finishes Fifteenth in Margaret Simmons Invitational

Murray, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's Track & Field team opened their outdoor season on Saturday as they competed at the Margaret Simmons Invitational at Marshall Gage Track located on the campus of Murray State in Murray, Kentucky. The Blue Raiders competed in eight events over the weekend picking up 10 points to finish 15th overall in the invitational.

The Blue Raiders got started on Saturday with the 800-meter race with Laila Hardin finishing the highest for Lindsey Wilson at 35th with a time of 2:36.36. Bailie Colcord followed behind with a time of 2:36.72 to finish 39th.

Next up was the 200-meter race where Emilija Kusic had the best time for the Blue Raiders finishing 25th with a time of 26.58. Hardin crossed the line next for the Blue Raiders finishing 30th with a time of 26.93.

Henriette Hawlas was the only Blue Raider to participate in the high jump where she jumped for 1.50 meters and a 14th place finish. In the long jump, two Blue Raiders notched top ten finishes as Ty'nasia Walker finished seventh jumping 5.47 meters and Kusic finishing eighth jumping for 5.38 meters. Walker went on to get a top-five finish in the triple jump, jumping for 11.19 meters for a fifth-place finish.

In the shot put event, Mya Caon produced a top ten finish throwing for 12.18 meters, enough to finish sixth. Brianna Laws threw for 10.22 meters, finishing 16th while Tori Kennedy threw for 7.19 meters finishing 30th.

In the discus event, Mya Caon continued to dominate for the Blue Raiders throwing for 35.05 meters, finishing 12th. Laws threw for 29.29 meters to finish 20th while Kennedy threw for 25.95 meters to finish 22nd.

Laws got her first top ten finish of the day in the hammer throw, tossing for 32.20 meters for a sixth-place finish while Kennedy threw for 24.87 meters to finish 12th.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on April 2nd when they travel to Owensboro, Ky. to compete in the KWC Invitational.
