Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. - The No. 3 seed Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team started postseason play on Friday evening, defeating rival Campbellsville (Ky.) 5-1 in the Mid-South Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.
Silvia Marchesi led the Blue Raiders in shots with five in the game, tying Alicia Thoresen with three shots on goal. As a team, the Blue Raiders outshot the Tigers 19-14 with a 12-5 shot on goal tally. Campbellsville led in saves on the night with goalkeeper Katelyn Young making six saves on the night.
The Blue Raiders started the game off with a few early efforts on goal from Alicia Thoresen and Emma Lindell, but both chances were not enough to beat the Campbellsville goalkeeper, Katelyn Young. The scoring eventually opened up in the match after Yudaya Nakayenze scored her sixth goal of the season in the 20th minute, putting Lindsey Wilson up 1-0 early in the first half.
Things got even better for the Blue Raiders in the 35th minute after Britt Tonis found the head of Alicia Thoresen from a free-kick for the 2-0 lead. The goal is the junior midfielders' third of the season and put the Blue Raiders into a good position at halftime.
Into the second half, the scoring did not stop for the Blue Raiders. Silvia Marchesi added her name to the score sheet after tapping in a simple low cross from Nakayenze for her second goal of the season. Alina Siegel scored her first career goal, collecting a loose ball in the six-yard box, and easily slotted it past Young to make it 4-0.
Campbellsville got on the score sheet in the 75th minute after Abagail Proctor spun and slotted a first-time shot from outside the box past Evejn Frigotto in goal.
Beatriz Rodrigues finished off the final goal of the game for the Blue Raiders, finishing a cross in the box from Larissa Modesto De Souza for her second goal of the season.
The team advances to the semifinal match tomorrow where they will face the No. 2 seed Cumberlands (Ky.). Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
