Box Score MARIETTA, Ga. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team held off the Running Eagles of Life (Ga.) 68-52 Thursday night to earn their fourth conference win of the season extending a four-game win streak on the road.
Maleigha Oldham led the Blue Raiders (9-6, 4-3 MSC) with 20 points and seven rebounds on the night while Sydnie Hall had 18 points going four of seven from the three-point line. Hailey Ison had a good night as well after scoring 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds. As a team, the Blue Raiders shot 39.1 percent from the floor and 36.4 from beyond the arc while remaining perfect at the free-throw line. Lindsey Wilson outrebounded the Running Eagles 37-28 while forcing the hosts into 18 turnovers leading to 21 points for the Blue Raiders.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair early as a three from Oldham and free throws from Ison put Lindsey Wilson on the board early. Both sides continued to trade the lead until the Running Eagles put away a layup with 11 seconds left in the first quarter to take a 19-16 lead.
The Runnings Eagles continued to push the advantage, knocking down a three early in the second quarter to push the lead to 22-16. Oldham answered back with a three of her own to cut the deficit back to within three at 19-22. Irye Gomez tied things back up with a layup to make it 26-26 with 3:58 left in the half. The Blue Raiders continued their scoring run as they put away 10 unanswered points to take a 30-26 lead. Oldham earned a steal and a breakaway bucket as time expired to take a 32-30 halftime lead.
The two teams traded the lead back-and-forth to start the third quarter as both sides knocked down threes to resume play. Hall was on form to begin the quarter as she converted a shot from beyond the arc and a layup to give the Blue Raiders a 37-35 lead with 6:19 remaining in the quarter. Oldham extended the lead to five after knocking down another three of her own to make it 40-35. The Running Eagles wouldn't go away however as they hit back-to-back threes at the end of the quarter to take a 43-42 lead into the final quarter of play.
The Blue Raiders started the fourth quarter off hot as Ison put the Blue Raiders back in front at 46-43 after knocking down a free throw and a layup to begin the quarter. Moments later Oldham knocked down her fourth three of the evening to extend the lead to six at 49-43. Jordyn Stephens and Oldham both put down breakaway layups a little later to make it 10 unanswered points to begin the quarter, extending their lead to 10 at 53-43 and forcing the Running Eagles into a timeout. Hall made it 12 unanswered with 7:18 left in the quarter after a jump shot of her own. The Blue Raiders remained strong through the rest of the quarter and earned their fourth conference win of the season finishing 68-52.
The Blue Raiders will conclude their two-game road trip on Saturday when they take on Tennessee Southern. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
