Blue Raider Women Silence Pikeville

Box Score

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – On Saturday afternoon, the Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team bounced back from its first conference loss of the season, defeating hosts Pikeville in shutout fashion, 2-0.

The win helps the Blue Raiders keep pace in the Mid-South standings, and is the program's sixth consecutive shutout against the Bears and 19th all-time in 21 meetings.

Alina Siegel and Rayssa De Souza acted as the local's offensive catalysts with a goal each. The latter of the two also contributed an assist while Emma Lindell chipped in a dime as well.

All told, De Souza and Lindell paced Lindsey Wilson with eight and six shots, respectively, en route to a season-high 29 total shots for the Blue Raiders. Larissa Modesto and Alicia Thoresen followed closely behind with five and four chances, individually.

It took the locals 11 shots before finally opening the scoring in the 38th minute. After a turnover in the Bears' attacking end, Silvia Marchesi led a counter run up the middle of the field before finding a streaking Lindell to her right side. With the Pikeville netminder moving out of position to try and challenge Lindell, the senior midfielder legged a pass into the box to an unmarked De Souza who did not have to do much to put the ball into the wide-open net.

Then, in the 60th minute, the Blue Raiders doubled their advantage when De Souza collected a long pass from Thoresen and connected with Siegel at the far post for her first tally of the year.

From there, Lindsey Wilson keeper Maya Caon faced nine Pikeville shots, making four saves on the ones that made it through to her to top her game total off at seven.

Saturday's outing was the local's final road contest of the regular season. Up next is three-straight home games beginning on October 19 versus Bethel University (Tenn.).
