Box Score PIKEVILLE, Ky. – On Saturday evening, the Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team rattled off three unanswered goals to handle upset-minded Pikeville, 3-1.
The homestanding Bears broke through after just 90 seconds, but that's all they would get past Pablo Costa and the Blue Raider defense for the rest of this affair.
Sadam Masereka, Alexander Koziolek and Monwabisi Mngqibisa each tallied goals for the visitors as part of 32 total shots. The latter of the three finished the day with a match-high eight shots, half of which ended up on goal.
Over a half-hour after Pikeville got the scoring started, the Blue Raiders placed their equalizer off the foot of Koziolek, who converted on his third penalty kick of the season in the 39th minute.
Following the halftime break, Masereka pushed the locals in front with his team-leading eighth goal of 2022, taking a brilliant, long-distance find by Moussa Gueye and tucking it past the Bears' goalkeeper who had come out of his box to try to beat Masereka to the ball.
Then, in the closing moments, Mngqibisa put the icing on the cake with a skillful deke in front of the net resulting in a clear path for the Blue Raiders' third and final goal of the contest.
In all, the locals muscled 17 shots on goal while limiting the Bears to only three on 11 shots.
Costa was credited with his second-straight victory in net as Lindsey Wilson improved its unbeaten streak to five matches, dating back to September 28.
Just like the Blue Raider women, Saturday marked the end of the road portion of the men's soccer team's 2022 schedule. Next on the docket, Lindsey Wilson hosts Bethel University (Tenn.) on October 19 at 7 p.m. CST.
