Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 18-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team used six goals across the final 41 minutes of action to defeat Bethel (Tenn.) 6-3 on Wednesday at Ray Wells Field.
Trailing 1-0 out of the break, Lindsey Wilson (6-4-3, 6-1-1 MSC) wasted no time mounting their comeback. Irma Thoresen leveled the score during the 49th minute on a solo effort. The freshman broke down the end line before finishing in the top-left corner of the goal over the Bethel keeper.
Just two minutes later, Emma Lindell gave LWC the lead when she scored off an assist from Britt Tonis. The Blue Raiders doubled their advantage with their third straight goal during the 66th minute. Alicia Thoresen netted the goal on an Alina Siegel assist.
Bethel (6-5-3, 2-4-2 MSC) battled back with two straight goals to level the score for the second time in the contest. Elle Carson scored in the 72nd minute and Jimena Hernandez picked up her goal in the 78th minute.
Lindsey Wilson closed out the game with three straight unanswered goals to win 6-3. In the 79th minute, Rayssa De Souza scored the eventual game-winner on a solo effort. Alicia Thoresen scored her second of the night in the 84th minute with a De Souza assist.
Silvia Marchesi notched the final tally of the night with her strike in the 85th minute. Larissa Modesto picked up the helper on the play.
Bethel scored first in the contest during the 11th minute. Johanna Veldhuizen registered her seventh goal of the season on a cross from Nathalie Rojas. Rojas sent a ball into the box and found Veldhuizen who took one touch before finishing into the top-right corner past the outreached arms of a diving Maya Caon.
The first half was an even battle as both teams registered 11 shots. Lindsey Wilson produced numerous scoring chances in the half but failed to find the back of the goal as Bethel's goalkeeper made three saves as two Blue Raider shots rang off the goal post.
Lindsey Wilson outshot the Wildcats 19-15 including 11-9 in shots on goal. The Blue Raiders also held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Lindsey Wilson returns to the pitch on Ray Wells Field on Saturday when they play host to Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.). Play is slated to begin at Walter S. Reuling Stadium at 5 p.m. CT.
