Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – For the second time in as many matches, the Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team detonated for six goals against the Lions of Freed-Hardeman University en route to its seventh conference victory of the 2022 season.
The Blue Raiders were relentless with the ball, firing 18 total shots, including 12 on target. Defensively, the locals limited the visitors to only two chances each on Maya Caon and Gabby Duerson, with the netminding duo standing tall to stop them all and preserve the team's third shutout effort of the year.
Pacing the fray for Lindsey Wilson was Rayssa De Souza with a pair of goals and two assists. Teammates Alicia Thoresen, Emma Lindell, Abby Sheffer and Larissa Modesto tacked on one tally apiece, while Maria Frazier, Britt Tonis, Alina Siegel, Thoresen, and Sheffer rounded out the offense with one assist each.
It was De Souza opening the scoring for the home side in the 24th minute, turning in a free kick from Tonis with a diving header for her eighth goal of this campaign.
Then, in the 31st minute, the Blue Raiders notched another off the foot of Thoresen, followed by a third mark moments later when Lindell collected a pass from Sheffer and beat the Lions' keeper point blank.
In the second half, Sheffer etched her name on the scoresheet for the first time in her young career, putting home a low shot into the far corner to stretch Lindsey Wilson's lead to 4-0 in the 46th minute.
The hosts would go on to add two additional scores from De Souza and Modesto, matching their season-high that had previously been set just one match ago versus Bethel.
Saturday's result puts the Blue Raiders in a solid position with the regular season finale right around the corner. That contest will take place on October 27 when Highway 55 rival Campbellsville University pays a visit to Columbia at 5 p.m. CST.
