Women's Soccer Picks Up Win Against Shawnee State in Convincing Fashion

Box Score

PORTSMOUTH, OHIO - The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team secured a dominant 2-0 win against Shawnee State on Tuesday afternoon on the road.

After starting off conference play with a draw, LWC has rattled off three straight wins in the conference, leaving them undefeated through four games.

The Blue Raiders were pressing early on in the match with their first chance coming with Rayssa De Souza taking it around the keeper, but could not find an angle for a shot. This didn't deter the assault, as soon after, Emma Lindell ran with pace down the right wing then finding an open Silvia Marchesi in the middle of the box who slotted it home.

Shawnee State had a chance to equalize late into the first half from a Frederika Ntumba run that ultimately trickled past the right post keeping the score at 1-0.

That score would hold to the end of the first half, with that half showing the Blue Raiders kept the ball in the attacking third and registered seven shots on goal.

Alicia Thoresen netted her team leading fifth goal after a counter-attacking through ball assist from Emma Lindell, where Thoresen put it under the legs of the goalkeeper to increase the Lindsey Wilson lead.

Defensive effort was the story for the second half as the back line secured the defensive third, stiffling any chances and only allowing 2 total shots and none on net.

The Blue Raiders dominated the game on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball registering 16 shots to the Bears seven shots, with 12 shots on goal compared to two shots, respectively. The corner kick disparity is also a statistic of note, with the Blue Raiders netting nine corners to the Bears one attempt.

The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team returns to the pitch in a battle against Georgetown in Georgetown, Ky. at 2:30 p.m. CT.
