Women's Soccer Bests Georgetown to Remain Unbeaten in Conference Play

Box Score

GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team wins 3-1 to pick up their fourth consecutive conference win against Georgetown (Ky.) on Saturday afternoon.

After not picking up a win in their non-conference schedule, the Blue Raiders remain unbeaten in conference play as they record their fourth straight win.

Early in the match a corner kick that bounced around finding the right foot of Alina Siegel resulted in what looked to be the first goal of the game for the Blue Raiders, but was ultimately called back due to offsides.

Emma Lindell played a through ball to a darting Rayssa De Souza, who broke past the Tigers back line finding herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, slotting it into the bottom left corner for the first score of the game.

Following a Britt Tonis interception, Rayssa De Souza splits the center backs with a pass to Silvia Marchesi who puts it home, or so the Blue Raiders thought as that goal was also called back for offsides, leading the coach Drew Burwash to pick up a yellow card protesting the call.

Confusion in the box leads to a Silvia Marchesi shot that ricochets off the right post finding the feet of Emma Lindell who taps it in for her first goal of the season, making the game 2-0 going into the break.

Libby Miller cut into the Blue Raider lead early in the second half as she ran with pace past the Blue Raider defense, delivering a left footed strike just past the diving Maya Caon to make it a 2-1 contest.

Lindsey Wilson answered back and restored their two goal lead after a Britt Tonis corner kick trickled through the box, eventually finding the feet of Alicia Thoresen at the back post who put it past the keeper, notching her team leading sixth goal of the season.

The Blue Raiders outshot the Tigers 22 to 12 with the shots on goal being ten to six in favor of Lindsey Wilson.

The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team returns home to Ray Wells Field at Walter S. Reuling Stadium to face No. 4 Cumberlands (Ky.) in what could be their last test, on Wednesday October 12 at 5 p.m. CT.
