COLUMBIA, Ky – The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team continued its late season run and upended defending NAIA National Champion Keiser (Fla.) in a dramatic penalty shootout, 6-5.

In an evenly matched battle that saw just two first half goals, the Blue Raiders got the final edge over the Seahawks after 110 minutes of regulation play with a Monwabisi Mngqibisa walk off penalty kick to send LWC to the 2022 NAIA National Championship Final Site.

The Blue Raiders and Keiser finished the contest with a 1-1 draw.

Lindsey Wilson (11-6-4) had the slight edge in shots (11-10) over Keiser (13-1-3,) with one more shot on goal than the Seahawks in a chippy match that had 25 fouls called.

This defensive battle started off with Keiser controlling the pace while attacking the Blue Raider back line throughout the first half. It was deadlocked at zero until the 25th minute when Sadam Masereka opened things up for the second straight game for Lindsey Wilson. Masereka found himself in Seahawk territory in a one-on-one situation with the Seahawk goalie where he won that matchup for the score to put LWC ahead 1-0.

Keiser responded within seven minutes to match the Lindsey Wilson goal with one of their own. The strike come from senior forward Lucas Jacobs to make it 1-1. Jacobs recorded his 10th goal of the year on a pass from Ian Garnero.

Tough defenses by both sides kept one another from scoring for the remainder of regulation which required overtime.

The same action occurred in the two overtime periods as both teams had no intentions of going home in this second-round rematch. A 5-2 shot advantage for LWC was not enough to put the defending champions away just yet which led to a penalty kick shootout.

Despite LWC missing their first two shot attempts in PK's LWC got their third and fourth to go to level the score.

Junior defender Pedro Maximiano kept the Blue Raiders alive with a strike past Keiser netminder, Santiago Nebot. After both teams went on to make their next two attempts in a sudden death situation, Pablo Costa stopped Keiser's Noah Southwell to set up the game-winning PK score for Mngqibisa.

Lindey Wilson now waits to find out their next opponent for the 2022 NAIA National Championship Final Site in Decatur Alabama. The NAIA national office is scheduled to release the finals bracket this week. The 64th Annual Men's Soccer National Championship will take place Nov. 29-Dec. 5 at the Jack Allen Complex.
