Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team outscored Rio Grande 12-8 in overtime to secure their second win of the season at 71-67. The Blue Raiders and the Storm battled for 40 minutes to a 59-59 tie.
The Blue Raiders finish the Brady Button Memorial Classic with a perfect 2-0 record to move to 2-1 on the season.
Elijah Jordan helped push the Blue Raiders to the win with six points in the overtime period as Payton Cundiff knocked down a timely three and Mark Edmond added three points at the charity stripe.
Trailing by two points with 31 seconds to play in regulation at 59-57, Jordan took control of the game and knocked down a step-back two-pointer to level the score. Lindsey Wilson's defense forced a Storm turnover on the final possession pushing the teams to overtime.
For the second straight night, Jordan dialed in a career performance with a team-high of 29 after coming off a career-high 26 points against Baptist Bible College (Mo.). Jordan finished 10-of-16 from the floor, 5-of-7 from the line, and added a team-high of five assists. Edmond was a few points shy of a double-double with 11 rebounds and seven points.
The game was toe-to-toe in the first half featuring seven lead changes. Lindsey Wilson shot just 27.6 percent from the floor during the opening 20 minutes on 8-of-29 shooting. Physical defensive play by both teams led to the low-scoring first half as Rio Grande led 32-25 after 20 minutes of play. The Storm finished the half on a 13-6 run.
Lindsey Wilson trailed most of the second half, falling behind by nine points three times over the opening 11 minutes. LWC battled to take a 49-48 lead with 8:09 to play. The lead was their first since the four-minute mark of the opening half.
The final eight minutes of action featured seven lead changes and four ties.
Lindsey Wilson hits the road for the first time this season when they compete in an exhibition on Saturday, Nov. 12 against Murray State (Ky.) at 8 p.m. CT.
