Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – For every push the Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team gave on Thursday evening at Waller Gymnasium, the homestanding Bears of Shawnee State had an answer. Even with their hottest shooting performance in two weeks, the Blue Raiders could not overcome the physical play of their hosts en route to an 80-63 decision.
The result slips Lindsey Wilson to 5-8 overall on the season and 1-7 against Mid-South Conference opponents.
With a few pieces missing from the line-up, the locals received a bulk of their offensive contributions from four different players finishing in double-figures, including Jamyus Jones and Johrdon Mumford, who totaled game-highs of 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Connor Robinson and Lucas Ribeiro each chipped in 10 points, marking the second consecutive game of 10 or more points for Robinson, and the second such instance of the year for the latter of the two.
That duo got things started for the Blue Raiders, as they notched each of Lindsey Wilson's first six points to help them to an early 6-5 lead. The Bears countered, however, with a 13-2 run to quickly jump in front by double-digits, and despite a small response by the visitors, Shawnee State found itself in control down the stretch of the first half. A late 8-4 advantage by the Blue Raiders over the final four minutes of the first frame managed to trim the deficit down, but the Bears maintained a 39-28 cushion into the break.
In the second half, Jones caught fire with back-to-back three-pointers to sneak Lindsey Wilson back within eight points of the lead, and a Robinson bucket knocked the score to 46-40 with 14:33 to play. Shawnee State continued to find answers to offset the Blue Raiders' runs, and an 11-2 swing across a two-minute span later in the half ultimately sealed the game for the Bears.
In all, Lindsey Wilson shot 43.4 percent from the floor, its best effort since defeating Bethel (Tenn.) back on December 1.
Mumford and Ribeiro paced the Blue Raiders on the glass with eight rebounds each, while Mumford also dished out a team-best three assists, which is a career-high for the sophomore.
Lindsey Wilson concludes the home portion of the calendar year on Saturday when the University of Pikeville comes to Columbia for a 3 p.m. CST start time.
