LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson Track and Field teams got their outdoor season underway this weekend as they traveled to a chilly Lexington to compete in the Pioneer Invitational hosted by Transylvania University.
In the track events for the men, Edwin Van Wyk captured the 100-meter dash with a time of eleven point eighty-one seconds while JaMarri Mack finished fifth with a time of 11.92. Van Wyk picked up his second victory on the day taking the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.27 while Brenden Parham finished fourth with a time of 23.80.
K'ron Sherald kept the top-five finishes coming for the Blue Raiders as he placed fifth in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.66.
In the 800-meter run, Nolan Foushee placed a time of 2:06.19 for a fifth-place finish while Noah Brown placed eighth with a time of 2:07.42.
Brown also went on to place seventh in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:23.80 while Victor Clark placed ninth with a time of 4:27.37 and Justin Stearns placed just behind Clark in 10th with a time of 4:27.98.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Jelle Golbach placed second with a time of 17.00 while David Johns placed third with a time of 18.70. Marcus Abel took fifth place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.01.
In the relays, a group of Robert Dyer, Johns, Jabari Springs, and Kaleb Hodges claimed third in the 4x100 meter event with a time of 45.04 while in the 4x400 meter relay, a group of Brenden Parham, Darius Willis, Foushee, and Jaylun Wallace placed third with a time of 3:44.65 and Abel, Brown, Noah Bullock, and Stearns placed fifth with a time of 3:32.28.
In the field events, Golbach got another second-place finish as he leaped for 1.90 meters in the high jump. Justin Borden matched Golbach's leap to take third in the event.
Borden also finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.10 meters while Rayne Jones-Foster placed seventh with a jump of 6.07 meters.
Austin Campbell won the shot put competition after throwing for 14.89 meters while Dominic Schroeder placed eighth with a throw of 12.61 meters and Brandon Fields placed just behind in ninth with a toss of 11.61 meters.
In the final event of the day, Campbell placed fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.91 meters while Schroeder placed 10th with a throw of 36.93 meters.
As for the women, in the track events, Jozlen Brisbon won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.17 while Alexis Hale took seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.38. Jamie Moses also placed a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:14.72 while in the 800-meter run, Olivia Rudder produced a top-five finish taking second with a time of 2:31.48.
In the 1500-meter run, Alyssa Sharp placed fourth with a time of 5:33.24 while Kayla Roeder took ninth with a time of 5:47.20.
Meredith Johnson earned her first standard of the outdoor season as she put together an "A" standard in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:18.00.
In the field events, Henriette Hawlas started things off with a second-place finish in the high jump with a jump of 1.55 meters. Luna Senica won the long jump with a leap of 5.39 meters while Hawlas placed second with a jump of 5.12 meters. Alina Hoberg rounded things out with a fifth-place finish in the event with a jump of 4.98 meters.
In the shot put competition, Malorie Carter placed fourth with a throw of 9.47 meters while Tori Kennedy placed ninth with a throw of 8.61 meters. Courtney Ashton placed sixth in the discus competition with a throw of 23.02 meters while in the final event, Carter placed seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 35.51 meters.
The Blue Raiders will return to action on March 25-26 when they travel to Murray, Kentucky for the Margaret Simmons Invitational hosted by Murray State (Ky.).
