GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's track and field teams started competition at the NAIA National Championship on Wednesday completing three events before storms postponed the remainder of the opening day.
Henriette Halwas got off to a great start in the heptathlon, sitting in third with 2, 958 points after the first four events. She competed in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, 200-meter dash, and shot put claiming a top-five finish in each event.
Halwas finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.90-seconds. She then tied for fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.61 meters before earning her best finish on the day in the 200-meter dash crossing the finish line in third place at 26.20-seconds. Lastly, she claimed fifth once more in the shot put competition with a throw of 10.71 meters.
Jozlen Brisbon, Jordan Nelson, Kerryann Scott, and Luna Senica competed in the 4x100-meter trials where they missed out on qualifying for the finals in 23rd place. The quartet raced its way to a time of 48.40 seconds.
The Lindsey Wilson men's track and field team saw their first action of the competition in the 400-meter hurdles where Darius Willis had a tough go, placing 28th in the men's 400-meter trials with a time of 1:06.65 missing out on tomorrow's finals.
The remainder of the evening was postponed due to weather impacting the Gulf Shores area. Senica, who was set to take part in the long jump tonight will now compete on Friday at 11 a.m. CT while Meredith Johnson, who was scheduled to compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase trials tonight will now compete tomorrow morning at 11:50 a.m. CT.
The remainder of second day action of the NAIA National Championship begins at 10 a.m. CT.
