HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team got behind early and could never claw back, losing the game 6-1 to No. 2-ranked William Carey (Miss.). The Blue Raiders (0-1) started to gain their footing as the game went on but were never able to overcome the deficit as the game slipped away.

William Carey's Kauany Sousa tipped the scales early with a first minute goal. 17 Minutes later, a strike from Maria Azarias made the game 2-0. That score held until the halftime break.

In the 58th minute, Alicia Thoresen headed it in off a corner kick from Britt Tonis to cut into the Lady Crusader lead. A few moments after, Julia Herbst answered right back for William Carey to bring it back to a two-goal lead for William Carey. The Lady Crusaders netted three goals in the 73rd, 85th and 88th minute, putting the game out of reach.

Lindsey WIlson was outshot 31-9 while also being outshot on net 13-2. Azarias proved to be the player of the match with two goals and two assists for William Carey.

The Blue Raiders next match is Tuesday Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. CT against Georgia Gwinnett at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
