Women's Soccer Draw's No. 7 UT Southern

PULASKI, Tenn. – Lindsey Wilson battled No. 7 UT Southern to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday afternoon on the road. The result marks the third time LWC has settled for a tie contest this season after 90 minutes of action.

The Blue Raiders were outshot 26-14 but were only slightly outshot 11-9 in shots on goal. Maya Caon anchored the LWC defense in goal, finishing the contest with eight saves. Rayssa De Souza paced the Blue Raider attack and finished the game with five shots on goal as one found the back of the goal.

The Firehawks opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Estelle Badoedana Ekada found the back of the goal off an assist by Ravynne Wilson.

Lindsey Wilson's De Souza found the equalizer just three minutes later. Alicia Thoresen played one forward for De Souza who volleyed the ball over the goalkeeper from 18-yard out.

UT Southern took their second lead of the contest just eight minutes into the second frame. The Blue Raiders committed a foul inside the penalty area, resulting in a Firehawk penalty kick that pushed their advantage to 2-1.

The Blue Raiders managed to level the score in the 75th minute. Minni Laukka corralled possession in the middle of the field before playing it out wide to Britt Tonis. Tonis connected on a low strike from the corner of the 18-yard box to the far back corner of the goal to level the score.

Lindsey Wilson and UT Southern continued battling over the final 15 minutes, but neither was able to find the go-ahead goal.

The Blue Raiders return to the pitch on Sunday when they play No. 15 Cumberland on the road. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. CT.
