Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team picked up a 2-0 win in a battle against Thomas More for the Blue Raider faithful's first taste of Mid-South Conference action.
The Blue Raiders pick up their second straight win in conference play after not registering a win during their grueling non-conference schedule.
The contest was nil-nil until the 62nd minute when Silvia Marchesi played one off to Alicia Thoresen at the top of the 18-yard box who then powered it past the goalkeeper for the Blue Raider goal. Nine minutes later Thoresen found Marchesi on the right side of the congested box who slotted it home off a right footed strike over the head of Lauren Welsh, making the game 2-0.
After a questionable throw-in decision by the referee, Alicia Thoresen is called for a costly handball. The ensuing freekick from Ryann Meddings resulted in an amazing diving save from Maya Caon keeping the Blue Raider lead at two.
The Saints made things interesting late in the second half after a low cross into the six-yard box from Eva Kinwel finding the foot of Sterre Harsveld van der Veen, putting the Lindsey Wilson lead in danger.
Maya Caon registered six saves in the contest, ushering away most of the shots going her way.
The Blue Raiders lead comfortably in shots with 20 compared to the Saints 12, although Thomas More narrowly beat out Lindsey Wilson in shots on goal with 7-6.
The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team will be back in action against Shawnee State on October 4 in Portsmouth, Ohio on Shawnee Turf at 4 p.m. CT.
